Curriculum Intent Statement – Design Technology
Design and technology gives children an opportunity to provide creative and practical solutions to meet the needs of their community.
At St. Philip’s, children can apply their learning from maths, science, computing and art to enjoy creating innovative products in design and technology. Children will develop their understanding of design and technology through researching, making, evaluating and adapting their products in response to real and relevant problems. They will learn how to take risks and develop the resilience to overcome set-backs. By gaining technical understanding, skills and vocabulary, children will be equipped to confidently perform daily tasks and solve practical problems they encounter in the real world. They will also be introduced to famous engineers, designers, chefs and architects to gain an understanding of how practical problems of the past have been solved.
We want children to value their own health through understanding nutrition and learning how to cook which is an essential life skill.
