Curriculum Intent Statement - MUSIC

Our main aim is that children leave St Philip’s Primary School with a wide range of learning experiences in music.  These will be formed through interesting and exciting opportunities that enhance a child’s awareness of their own abilities and strengths as a musician. This will ensure that children see learning in music as an ongoing process. They will develop their understanding of rhythm and pitch and learn how music is structured, as well as learning technical vocabulary for these elements. As children’s confidence builds, they will enjoy the performance aspect of music by performing in services, festivals and community events. Children will listen to, review and evaluate a range of music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles, cultures and traditions, including contemporary music and the works of the great composers and musicians.
